Cleaning and Disinfecting Your MASS™ Medical Storage Scope Cabinets

Proper infection control procedures are a key part of keeping your MASS™ Medical Storage scope cabinets in top condition. When establishing an infection control policy, The Joint Commission recommends taking many factors into account:

 

  • Frequency of opening cabinet doors

  • Presence of any visible debris

  • Any wet stains, marks or droplets

  • Volume and turnover of the cabinet’s contents

Cabinet Cleaning

To clean effectively, follow these directions in conjunction with your facility’s infection control protocol:

  • Dust with a soft, dry cloth.
  •  Use a soft cloth to apply a non-abrasive, neutral  liquid detergent at 10-20% solution.
  • Apply the detergent to the system with a soft cloth – do not spray liquid directly onto the ScopeLocker or LockerHEPA.
  • Avoid harsh cleaners such as bleach or ammonia, as these can cause permanent damage.
  • Lightly rinse with a clean, damp cloth.
  • Use as little water as possible to avoid allowing excess water to drip into any crevices, as this can cause damage and allow for bacterial growth.
  • Dry with a clean, soft cloth.

Cabinet Disinfecting

  • The disinfectant most suitable for use with MASS™ Medical Storage products is one from the quaternary ammonium compound family. This low-level disinfectant comes highly recommended for general housekeeping of medical storage products and other non-critical items. 

  • Quaternary ammonium compounds are bactericidal, fungicidal, and virucidal against lipophilic (enveloped) viruses. At hospital-strength concentration, quaternary ammonium compounds can destroy HIV, hepatitis B and C, influenza, and parvovirus.

  • Quaternary ammonium compounds are available in premixed liquid form, concentrated form, and in pre-soaked disinfecting wipes. 

  • Regardless of which method you choose, the most important thing is to read the label of the disinfectant and adhere to the manufacturer’s recommended contact time. 

  • The surface must remain wet for the recommended length of time in order for the disinfectant to work properly. 

  • To maintain the dryness in the environment of your endoscope storage, do not use excess disinfectant.

Component Care

    • We recommend using quaternary ammonium compounds for disinfecting the components of your scope cabinet.

    • While not suitable for cleaning the surface of your cabinet, bleach can be used on certain components if so desired.

    • Drip trays can be processed in or out of the cabinet, although we do recommend removing the tray in order to reach every surface.

    • Clean and disinfect the drip tray in the same manner as outlined above, taking care to dry completely before replacing.

    • The scope holders (including Secure-A-Scope™) should regularly be cleaned with a mild, non-abrasive detergent and then disinfected with a quaternary ammonium compound or bleach.

    • MASS™ truHEPA™ filters should be replaced every six months. MASS™ Medical Storage’s service team is available for this routine maintenance.
